Visit Scotland Unforgettable Holidays Sail and explore the Outer Hebrides, Small Isles and St Kilda

Voyages in Scotland

There are some who would say, that Scotland's wild western coastline is one that is best explored by boat.

Scotland is home to some of the world’s most stunning scenery and dotted along its West Coast are countless islands each with its own distinct character and charm. Around these islands lies a body of water, teaming with marine and bird life including Orca, Basking sharks, Puffins and Gannets. A perfect place to explore under sail.

From the historic island of Iona, famous for its Monastery dating back to the 6th century, to the delightful Treshnish Islands home to the ever charming and inquisitive Puffins. Whether it’s the stunning Outer Hebrides with their countless bays and vast stretches of white sand beaches, or the jagged peaks of the Cuillins on Skye. This immersive seascape truly has something for everyone.

Travel along the Road to the Isles or by train on the Famous West Highland line steam train (better known as the Hogwarts Express) to the fishing port of Mallaig, Eda's summer cruising base, which offers the perfect location to take in all that this stunning coastline has to offer.

The outstanding natural beauty of the area with its vast array of sheltered bays provides many peaceful places to stop and spend the night. After an exciting day at sea sit back relax and enjoy a sense of achievement whilst our chef prepares a wholesome feast of freshly caught seafood and locally sourced produce before you turn in to your cosy bunk to be rocked gently to sleep.

6-night West Coast cruise

Our six-night West coast cruise is one of the most popular voyages.

No matter the weather we have an abundance of routes available, to the North takes us towards the sheltered waters of Skye, the sound of Raasay and the beautiful Summer Isles off of Ullapool.

West takes us out through the Small Isles, of Rum, Eigg, Muck and Canna then onwards into the Outer Hebrides. South we sail past Ardnamurchan point to the picturesque village of Tobermory on Mull with its colourful cottages. From Oban, the gateway to the isles, we can visit a whole host of islands including those of Islay and Jura famous for their world-renowned whiskies.

Blessed by our Westerly position away from the higher mountains of mainland Scotland, the weather is often drier with the long summer nights providing plenty of time to take it all in whilst you relax on the deck or take a walk ashore to discover a stunning vantage point with views out over these majestic islands.

9-night Adventure under Sail

Our 9-night voyages give us the opportunity to venture further afield; to areas only truly accessible by boat, providing an unforgettable adventure sailing holiday. Exploring the really remote areas of the Outer Hebrides including the Callanish Standing Stones and St Kilda, weather permitting.

Eda Frandsen is perfect for an extended voyage. Incredibly seaworthy, stable and sizeable to ensure an enjoyable smooth voyage in longer stretches of water. We can navigate into the smallest lochs and inlets that larger boats can’t reach and are often the only boat in an anchorage, enjoying regular sightings of rare birds and wildlife.

Passage Voyages

A longer offshore voyage as we sail north up the Irish Sea to the beautiful fishing village of Mallaig in the remote West Highlands of Scotland, or South from the highland port of Oban, to our winter home in Falmouth. A fantastic opportunity to explore the Celtic coastline, possible stops include the Isles of Scilly, Ireland, Isle of Man and the islands off the west coast of Scotland including the famous whiskey island of Islay. This is the perfect adventure for either the keen sailor or beginner looking to build sailing miles and experience sailing under the stars. All guests are encouraged to actively take part in the watchkeeping program of this voyage and a keen interest in seafaring and sailing is advisable to get the most out of this trip.

“At the end of a nine-day passage, it’s hard to put fully into words how much I enjoyed the trip on Eda Frandsen.
The challenges of overnight sailing, the glorious sunrises and sunsets, the views across all four nations of the UK from the sea, the food (oh the food), the chilly swims in Tobermory harbour.
All this and more in the company of Stella and Mungo plus this year’s crew member Mo, who guided a complete novice like me, through many different aspects of sea sailing.
If you are considering joining the Eda Frandsen, all I can say is get on a book now.”
