Eda Frandsen (pronounced “Ada”) is a 60 year old gaff cutter, originally built in Grenna, Denmark in 1938. She started life fishing for lobsters, and then seine netting out of Lemvig, Denmark. Between 1990-95 she was totally rebuilt and refitted by the Robinsons at Doune to combine her natural seaworthiness and reliability with romance and tradition.

Eda Frandsen. Chartered sailing in Scotland.
We offer an authentic, hands on traditional sailing experience. Eda complies with all safety regulations and is fully insured.
Eda is based in the Hebrides of Scotland – the finest unspoilt cruising ground in Europe. Each island has a unique charm. Some are bird sanctuaries or nature reserves. Some have thriving communities, while others only ruins. Explore from the sheltered lochs and soaring peaks of the mainland, to the remote rocky stacs of St Kilda or the Flannan Islands. Eda offers 8 guest berths in twin cabins.
Each morning we will hoist the sails. We may see whales, dolphins or basking sharks. On the islands we pass there may be deer, wild goats, otters or wildcats to be seen, as well as the majestic golden and white tailed eagles soaring over the mountains and sea cliffs. The crew of skipper and mate will welcome you aboard, usually at Mallaig, our local port. First it will be an introduction to the boat and the safety procedures. Then off you go! The cruise can be tailored to suit your own interests. You can be as energetic as you like; from gentle island hopping with plenty of time ashore, to passage making and night watches to a foreign landfall. At night we can drop anchor in a secluded haven for a hot shower, an excellent dinner and a glass of wine or a dram (Eda carries a selection). Go ashore to a local pub, or shall we have a starlit ceilidh on board?
For an idea of life on board Eda have a look at the youtube clips on the “Gallery” page.
For prices of our trips have a look at the “Itinerary” page. We are currently taking 2012 bookings now.
We make every effort to keep our prices as low as possible. For this reason we do not have anybody manning the office permanently. For the rest of the summer we are out at sea doing what we do best so please be patient if we do not respond to your emails the same day. If you need to contact us urgently, Jamie’s mobile number is 07876676283. You will probably still have to leave a message but I will get back to you as soon as the boat gets back in signal. Thanks for your patience.
