Another joint week

We have just finished another successful week sailing in company with the other traditional Scottish charter boats. There was Eda, Ezra, Lizzie May, Rosa and Ada, Margeuritte and Mascotte making up the fleet. We had some great close quarter sailing and the usual fierce inter ship rivalry! The weather did not co operate quite as well as last year but we still managed to get this picture off the West of Mull.

Stormy May

After the wettest and windiest May that anybody can remember we can now say with condidence thaty Eda’s storm sails have had a workout. We knew she was strong. Now we know that she is bullet proof! With trysail and reefed staysail she took everything that the weather could throw at her. There were gusts well in excess of 100 knots one day and she took it in her stride. Sorry that there are no pictures of this but it was just too nasty to get the camera out. Weather much better now and the sun has finally come out. Has summer finally arrived?…..

St Kilda

An initial first trip to St kilda with weather as lovely as it can only be in May here. Clearly a good omen for the rest of the summer!!

2011 season

That’s the start of our season then… Eda boldly heads out to St kildo on her first trip of the season looking very shiny after an extensive winter refit. There have been a few extra improvements made over the winter and Jamie, Penny and Eda herself are just itching to try them all out! The weather is perfect as it so often is at this time of year and we trust this is a good omen for the rest of the season. Happy sailing and there will be some more pictures to follow soon.
Email contact will now revert to being its sporadic self now that we are out at sea every day. Please be patient. We will respond eventually.

Jamie and Penny.

September Gales

Eda Frandsen was in her element with the gales we had last week. We dusted off the trysail and storm jib and she handled the force 9 winds beautifully. We also did a very stormy excersise with the local rescue helicopter which was very informative for us both. It also gave us these very unusual pictures.

Sailing in company

We have just finished what was arguably our best week ever. We managed to get a whole fleet of charter boats together and sail for a week in company. They were all gaff cutters with similar sailing characteristics and the close quarter sailing we had was truly awesome. We will definately be doing it again next year.

A truly memorable trip for a team of 21 year olds who have all just finished university. Some fantastic weather, lots of great sailing and the most enthusiastic fishing I think I have ever seen!

We have just finished a very wet but really sucessful trip with my kids on board. Life on Eda need not necessarily revolve around sailing long distances when there are crabs and lobsters to catch and beaches to swim off. A bit of walking the plank occasionally also helps to pass the time!!

The weather has finally come warm with the first wearing of shorts on deck. We also had some very enthusiastic swimming when the wind fell light. With the warm weather, the basking sharks have all come out with a vengence. We have seen large groups all feeding away happily which have had all the shutters clicking. Sadly all the pics I have taken have all turned out rubbish so here are a couple of Eda in full sail off the West of Skye in the most gorgeous of weather.
Jamie

We have just finished a stunning week sailing in company with Ezra. It has finally warmed up and it was nice to dispense with the hats and gloves for a bit. The 200 miles we covered during the week were almost entirely under sail and the highlight was a visit to te Monach Ises where we has a really good sighting of a huge basking shark. The wind died during the final race but that did provide the opportunity for some lovely pictures.
